Artist Statement

He had to choose. But it was not a choice
Between excluding things. It was not a choice

Between, but of. He chose to include the things
That in each other are included the whole,
The complicate, the amassing harmony.

For me, both art and religion are inclusive activities and tend to question our perception of the what has been ordained by such oppositional phrases as: “profane” and “sacred”, “high art” and “craft”. Who determines such categories and why? Through this work, it is my hope that viewers will pause for a moment and join me in asking such questions and determine for themselves what is truly “transcendent” in their own lives.
