As you may know, parking is an "issue" in Southern California. CSULB is no exception, so we provide the following information to make parking as easy as possible for you when you visit us. First, the map:
Things you need to know about parking:
- The CSULB Campus is divided into two main areas.
Upper Campus is on top of the hill to the south, near 7th Street.
Lower Campus is the flat part of campus to the north, near Atherton Street. - The Department of Art is on Upper campus. But the parking lots near the Department of Art are restricted to faculty and staff and are usually full during the week.
- During the week, the only non-metered public parking is on Lower campus. Little yellow machines found in these lots dispense all-day parking permits for $1.75.
- After 6:00 pm on weekdays, all parking lots are open to holders of the $1.75 parking pass sold from the yellow machines. So, parking near the Department of Art is somewhat easier after 6 pm during the week, but the lots are still pretty full.
- On weekends, all parking lots are open and free, unless there is a special event near one of the lots, in which case that lot will have attendants taking whatever parking fee is to be charged for the event. Lot 8, next to the Department of Art, is seldom used for event parking.
- During the week, the University operates the Campus Connection, a free shuttle service between the big parking lots on Lower campus and Upper campus. Shuttle stops are located in all of the public lots, and shuttles run 10-15 minutes apart. This is an alternative to walking to the Department of Art from a Lower campus parking lot.
Generally, if you're planning a visit to the CSULB Department of Art during the week, you'll have to park in one of the public lots and walk or take a shuttle to the Department of Art.
If you are a VIP visitor, you may be told to pick up a permit under your name at the Visitor Information Center on University Drive (see map above).
